Notes: Poets Creed

He talks about how there is no real universal creed he writes by, there are no real specifics in writings or expressions. He goes on to talk about the truly influential figures in his life, emphasizing on his father. In his reflections he realized that it took an entire lifetime to truly understand the influences that set things in motion, the paths he followed in life. He goes on to talk about the advantages of being a reader to a writer. How it is so much more enjoyable to simply be able to read something, and not worry about the responsibility of influencing people, or entire generations. As he goes on he talks about his love for classics, not the adventures or dialogues but his actual character. For him, the feeling behind a piece or poem is more important than the words, or the message. He continues on this train of thought and explains why he never wrote a novel, he feels that they are too padded unlike a poem or short story that gets to the point and is more readable. He closes his article with an interesting circumstance, how in his own country he became an "invisible man"; yet foreign nations revere him and hold him in high esteem.

Angelo Braun - Collage

I had class today when we met, sorry. I won't be able to make our meetings if they continue to be at 6:30 on Wednesdays. 7:00 is probably the earliest I can do on Wednesday.

Scheduling

So here's the deal for meeting times: from what everyone gave me, it looks like the only open time slots are Mondays or Fridays from 12:30 to 1:30, Tuesday/Thursday after 8, Monday/Wednesday/Friday after 6:30, Saturday after 1, or Sundays before 6. Personally I'd vote for Wednesday evening or Sunday late afternoon because quite honestly, I am broke as all royal fuck and don't want to have to come up to campus for all of an hour on days I have no other reason to be up there. Any thoughts?

Kudos to Konstantin for finding that Robert Wilson stuff. I'll be throwing up some ideas I found as well possibly later this afternoon.

Our Manifesto, and Other Team Business

Our Manifesto:
We are Team Venture; we represent the fusion of the new and the old. For too long, the paradigm of theater has required either adherence to long-antiquated traditions or a sacrifice of accessibility for the sake of some twisted faithfulness to a nebulous sense of artistic integrity. We are Team Venture; we reject both these senses in favor of a synthesis of both. We will find new meaning in old texts so that the audience may better find catharsis; we will use the theater as a way to manifest the collective unconscious. The line between reality and theater must be blurred. We are Team Venture.

Right, with that out of the way let's get down to business. I'll have everyone's name down in the "Starring" section some time tomorrow; I've had some other crap on my plate, and combined with the email notification for comments being defaulted to "off," I didn't realize everyone was clamoring to get their name in lights - er, pixels. I'll throw together a spreadsheet with everyone's schedules tomorrow as well and will try and come up with the best solution possible, which I will then post here. We're still waiting on our last two members to join the blog, as well, so once that's taken care of we should be hunky-dory.

Hope everyone had a good weekend, and feel free to throw up posts here when you have ideas about anything. Or recipes. Recipes are good, as I have a girl I'm trying to impress.

Manifesto!

so what are your ideas for the MANIFESTO?

our selected title is "Facelift for the Classics"
what does that mean for you?
how do we give a new spin for the classic stories including all that lovely avant guarde, surreal stuff that we all seemed to be so fond of?
what do we hope to accomplish by doing this?
or
new ideas?
what do you like about theater?
what would you like to do?

those are my attempted inspiring questions. hopefully they will get everyone's juices flowing so we can more easily write our Manifesto.

a "manifesto" is a declaration of intentions, principles, and purpose. so what are our intentions or purpose?

feel free to barf out all the ideas right here, we'll make sense of them later. :)
